Child abuse can happen right under your nose . . . And YOU may NEVER know! Less than one in ten victims will tell at the time they are abused. |
|
Physical or sexual abuse, neglect, emotional abuse...one abused child is one too many!
Over 4 MILLION child abuse/neglect reports in the US each year!
In SC, over 10,000 reports each year of child abuse are determined to have sufficient evidence that abuse is indicated! And so many more go unreported! |

The American public cares deeply about child abuse, but often doesn’t know what can be done about it. We are losing too many children to situations that are entirely preventable! Abusive behavior happens in many predictable situations. Family stress, poverty, divorce, addiction, drug use, limited education, job loss, isolation, etc., are some of the breeding grounds for child maltreatment.
Child maltreatment happens when people find themselves in stressful situations and don’t know how to cope. Many of the causes are linked to the changing nature of our communities: increased economic stress and isolation combined with fewer resources to support families, particularly those that face special hardships. There are many sensible ways to prevent abuse from happening. We know much about the kind of support that families need, and how to create the kinds of communities that really value kids.
Solutions must focus on the families of children, and on the pressures surrounding them. Prevention programs work to connect families to needed resources, to involve communities and neighborhoods, and to ensure healthy development for children. Prevent Child Abuse South Carolina Upstate Affiliates promote SOLUTIONS to child abuse . . . prevention programs and policies that work for the benefit of children by predicting and addressing abusive situations BEFORE they occur. Our programs help bolster parents’ confidence, educate young mothers, reduce stress and isolation, and send the message to families that information and support is available. |
